Ingredients

  • 29 ounces cut green beans drained
  • 10.5 ounces condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups crispy fried onions divided

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
  2. Whisk the condensed soup, milk, and black pepper in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Fold in the drained green beans and 2/3 cup of the crispy fried onions. Spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish.
  4. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, or until hot and bubbling around the edges.
  5. Stir the casserole gently. Sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup fried onions over the top, then bake for 5 minutes more, until the onions are golden and crisp.
  6. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Drain the green beans very well so the casserole stays creamy rather than watery. For make-ahead preparation, assemble the filling without the final onion topping, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add the remaining onions during the last 5 minutes of baking.
